From the Desk of Organizer Dave Tafoya,

In late May of 2025, BAC 3 filed a petition for an election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for a masonry contractor out of San Joaquin Valley. This campaign was a bottom-up campaign that engaged and empowered the workers. I am happy to announce that the (NLRB) election was a success as the ballots were counted on July 16th.  Although there are no guarantees when negotiating a contract, it’s a huge step moving forward to begin bargaining.  Improvements in wages, benefits and working conditions only happen when workers come together and demand more. I want to thank everyone that took the time and cast their ballots timely. The goal of our organizing efforts isn’t to divide union and non-union workers, it’s to raise standards across the board. By organizing non-union contractors and workers, we expand our membership and contractor base. We also close loopholes that exploit the most vulnerable workers. When non-union workers organize, they’re no longer individuals trying to survive – they become part of a movement for building a better future.

On June 21st, Organizer Manny Enriquez and I taught our second Construction Organizing Membership Education Training (C.O.M.E.T.) class of the year held at our Mason Development Center located in Tracy, Ca. I want to thank all 11 members that showed up and participated. We are scheduling future classes at our Sacramento Union Hall and another in San Joaquin County. We invite you to take part in our organizing efforts and interact with BAC Organizers and members. If you would like more information regarding the class, feel free to reach out.

I wanted to highlight a large project in Stanislaus County. The New Modesto Courthouse has put multiple BAC trades to work. As the summer of 2025 kicked off, BAC Tile Setters and Finishers moved in to put the final finishes on this 8 story, 310,000 square foot building. The new Courthouse has 27 courtrooms with large format Tile (LFT) in the lobbies and gauged porcelain tile (GPT) and Marble on the walls. The scheduled opening date is slated for March 2026. Thanks to all our BAC members for their quality craftsmanship.
