From the Desk of Dave Danner: Finally, we can see light at the end of the tunnel. The last 3 years have been the toughest for any generation since the great depression of the 1930’s. Your Staff was cut in September of 2009 and hours were reduced. Then, again in July 2010 Field Representatives were reduced to 24 hours of pay per week. We all have still been working for the members 5, 6 and 7 days a week. Now the payoff is in sight. Between Brick, Tile and all other trades we now have approximately 80 million dollars in signed contracts. We’re not completely out of the woods yet, but now is the time to press forward hard to keep the momentum going. Our LMCC’s for Tile and Brick have been knocking off the unfair competition with Labor Code Laws and other California State Compliance Statutes. In early May, we are expecting to begin to empty the books for Bricklayers between the California Health Care Facility in Stockton and other projects starting in Sacramento. These projects also offer the opportunity to start many new Apprentices who represent the future of our Union. Job Targeting has been successful in securing some projects that otherwise would have gone to the non-union sector. As the work continues the target rates will be phased out. With the new Forty Niners Stadium in Santa Clara the momentum will continue into 2013. Development and construction in general has been on hold for the last 3 years. As interest rates remain low projects will continue to start back up. It is our goal and mission, on a daily basis, to secure this work for our Union Members. To all of our Brothers and Sisters who have hung in there with BAC #3 through these unprecedented times, I would like to say thank you. Thank you for putting your trust and faith in us. And thank you for your support. We have been in this together and now we will all benefit together. We are among the few who have Health Care, Pensions and a future with benefits. |
