From Dave Danner’s Desk:

As anticipated, Refractory was very strong in 2007. BAC 3 was able to dispatch members, from all trades, who had completed BATC (Bay Area Training Corp) training classes. Some of these members have moved into the Refractory Trade full time and many are now on the hiring list of our signatory Refractory Contractors. In 2008 Refractory is expected to remain steady. Currently, Project Labor Agreements (PLA’s) are in place for over $4 billion dollars in Capitol Improvements in the 4 Bay area Refineries. $800 million dollars in capitol improvements at the Conoco Phillips Refinery in Rodeo is Union only. Chevron’s Richmond Refinery has approximately $2 billion alone in Union only capitol improvements in the planning and construction stages. In 2007 BAC Local #3 signed 3 new contractors to the Refractory Agreement SST (Shared Systems Technologies), F.D. Thomas and MIM. As we now have approximately 200 members BATC trained we have no immediate BATC classes scheduled. Any member who takes the class and passes on their own initiative will be reimbursed for the cost of the training by BAC Local#3 with a dated receipt. Certified Welders are also in demand in the Refractory Trade. Any member who takes a certified welding course, at their local Community College or trade school, will be reimbursed for the cost of the course upon the presentation of a completion certificate and dated receipt.

The 9th Annual Crab Feed was our biggest ever, we had lots of crab, raffle prizes and everyone had a great time. We want to thank everyone who helped and participated by sending in donations, purchasing tickets and attending.

Mark your calendars: BAC has just booked our 2008 Picnic at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo on July 26, 2008.

Check out the calendar at the top of the page for meeting information, we have 7 chapter meetings every month, if you have not attended one in a while, please make an effort to show up at least once this year. It’s a great place to meet your representatives, and network with other members. Please note the change of day and time for the San Francisco meeting.
